NON-HUMAN WECHAT MOMENTS

This book is inspired by my dog. It is intended to explore the contrast between the virtual communication state of people and the physical communication state of dogs under the pandemic situation, and it also reflects the sensory contrast and the similarity of information transmission between people and dogs.

Based on multi-sensory transformation, I use analogy and anthropomorphism to visualize the communication information between dogs and dogs, showing the dogs’ “social” platform full of sensory experiences, that is, dog urine as a medium, dogs use this physical information database to bond their groups closely.

During the pandemic and post-pandemic period, people are increasingly using virtual Moments (similar to Facebook and Instagram) to share information and lives widely. Moreover, the traditional education model (the essence of which is information transmission) has been impacted and destroyed, so that people are scattered in different places or even floating online classes everywhere. The information comes from all over the world and maybe non-timely and uncertain due to the time difference.

And then, dogs can also share their information widely, such as leaving a mark where they pass. This information is also spatial, drifting and non-timely, and has a wide range of uncertain information recipients. This state is somewhat similar to the current reception of human information. So I envisioned a question, what would it look like if a dog could post to Moments?

Through this project, I hope that the audience will think about the pandemic that has opened up the communication distance between people, but it has not hindered the effective communication between dogs who are also group animals. Therefore, we should reflect on the importance of people’s social status and diverse senses in information transmission under the pandemic situation, and try to break through anthropocentrism to reflect on the relationship between human beings and other species (dogs).
